Partial impact of chakka bandh in Sivasagar

A Correspondent

JOYSAGAR, June 4: The 24-hour chakka bandh called by the All Assam Motor Transport Workers’ Association on Monday seemed partially successful in Sivasagar. Private transport, including inter-district bus services, short distance mini bus services and also goods carrying services did not operate but ASTC bus services of inter-district service line and also inter-Sivasagar functioned normally. Besides, the ONGC transport cell also functioned normally. Due to the chakka bandh, common citizens had to face a lot of inconvenience and attendance in government offices was poor as the employees could not travel to office.

Meanwhile, the Sivasagar District Motor Transport Workers’ Association has sharply criticized the role of the Union government as well as the State government in checking the price hike of fuel throughout the country. The organization therefore demanded the authorities to allow them to hike fare of motor transport in Sivasagar district too. Meanwhile, Sivasagar Police booked four bandh supporters from ONGC gate but they were released in the afternoon.
