'Participation of common people will strengthen democracy'

MANGALDAI, April 25: All the 75 Gaon Panchayats in Darrang district on Wednesday joined the countrywide celebration of Panchayati Raj Divas with a day-long colourful programme in their respective areas. The highly enthusiastic office bearers of all the Gaon Panchayats organized special gaon sabha and special awareness camp on rural health, education, women empowerment, community development, sanitation, maintenance of cleanliness and nutrition. Taking part in a function organized at Bandia Gaon Panchayat near here, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman appealed to all the villagers to get involved in development activities under the government schemes and said that the participation of the common people in the democracy would strengthen the democracy.

 Chief Executive Officer of Darrang Zila Parishad, Adhar Bhuyan attended the Panchayati Raj Divas programme organized at the Gaon Panchayats of Upahupara, Aulachowka, Bordoulguri and Janaram Chowka in the district.  Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty also attended the celebration in several Gaon Panchayats.

On the other hand, Mangaldai Parliamentarian Ramen Deka attending the programme at Upahupara and Aulachowka and appealed to all sections of the society to come forward to be a part of the democracy and to get involved in development activities. Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das also took part in the Panchayati Raj Divas celebration.
