Party to decide Conrad's Assembly constituency

Shillong, March 14: Meghalya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has left to the party to decide as to which constituency that he should contest from. Sangma is a Member of Parlaiment (MP) who has been given the mantle of leading the coalition Government under the me of Meghalya Democratic Allaince (MDA). Speculations is rife that his sister Agatha K Sangma, elected from Tura South Assembly segment, may pave the way for her elder brother. However, on being asked by this correspondent, Conrad K Sangma said, “So far, we haven’t discussed anything but I will leave to the party to decide on this.” Conrad K Sangma has six months time to be a member of the State Legislative Assembly if he has to continue as the Chief Minister of the State.

Meanwhile, rumours doing the rounds are that the former Chief Minister and present leader of the opposition Mukul Sangma will forgo his Ampati seat - one of the two seats that he won in the just concluded elections. He had also won from Songsak constituency by defeating the two-time NPP legislator Nihim D Shira.

The grape vines also have it that the former Chief Minister will field his daughter from Ampati. Attempts to get in touch with Mukul Sangma have not yielded any result.
