DIGBOI, May 27: A Lekhapani-bound passenger bus was hit by a dumper laden with sand gravel on Friday evening on NH 38 at Digboi near AOD LPG Despatch Unit under Digboi Police Station. According to eye witness, a dumper bearing registration no. AS 23 AC-8255 transporting forest resources and heading towards Digboi, severely hit a passenger-packed Star bus no AS23 BC 3614 which was heading towards Margherita. Later leaving the driver and other staff of the dumper fled the scene. What raised the eyebrows of the nearby AOD security personnel on duty was the rrow escape of the highly inflammable tankers along the road near the accident site. The bus passengers were shifted to another bus. None were injured except for a bus staff who received injuries on his right leg. The police rushed to the spot and started investigation. Reacting strongly, the local NGOs and town traffic personnel present on the spot expressed concern over the mece of recklessly-driven dumpers from dusk to dawn, both legal and illegal, carrying various forest minor minerals under the nose of forest department officials. The minerals are carried and supplied across Tinsukia district.
