Passengers suffer due to poor road condition

From a Correspondent

Haflong, July 2: Hundreds of people travelling through Dima Hasao by NH-54 E were stranded for several hours at Boro Muolkoi as heavily-loaded dumpers were stuck there due to precarious condition of the road.

The passengers, particularly from Barak Valley and Dima Hasao, while travelling through Silchar – Haflong have to face inconvenience as the condition of the road at many locations in the Silchar- Haflong portion of NH-54 E has been pitiable since the past few months.

After the recent tragic road accident on Silchar- Guwahati road, people of Barak Valley are forced to travel by NH 54 E through the district of Dima Hasao, despite knowing the poor condition of the road. The NH-54 E has become the only means of communication as there has been no railway communication between Silchar – Guwahati since May 16.

Places like Durbin tilla, Dimbruchera, Kapurchera, Bormuolkoi and Miyunkro are in precarious condition for quite some time and the company engaged for the construction in these stretches isalso gaining notoriety for its ibility and substandard work, people alleged.

The conscious people of Haflong opined that road communications always plays a pivotal role for the socio-economic development of the society but here in Dima Hasao, though the people are raising voices for the cause, they have failed to draw the attention of the authority concerned. They alleged that the authority concerned has turned a blind eye in this genuine and important concern.
