Passport office opened in Imphal

IMPHAL April 1: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi yesterday iugurated the passport office in Imphal. Speaking on the occasion he said that henceforth people do not have to waste time and money in obtaining passport from other states.

Applicants from Manipur and other NE states had to go to Guwahati for obtaining such a passport. They had to visit Guwahati several times and spend lots of money. Meanwhile, some agencies had sprung up which charged big amounts for services rendered. The successive Congress government at the Centre did not pay heed to the demand of the people to open an office in Imphal. However, after the installation of the Modi government a decision was taken to open the branch in Imphal. Ibobi also swiped at the airport authority for doing nothing for the upgradation of the Tulihal airport. As per demands of the state government it was declared an intertiol aiprot. However, the neceary infrastructure are yet to be provided and there is no construction work going on. Meanwhile, the parking feeds inside the airport complex had been stifly hiked since it is now an intertiol airport.
