Patient allegedly given expired medicines

North Lakhimpur, July 7: Biman Chutia, who was admitted in North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital at Chaboti, was reportedly given an antibiotic IV in liquid form of 100ml, as he was suffering from diarrhea. The expiry date for the antibiotic had lapsed as the date printed was March 2015 from the batch 20F-001, manufactured in April, 2012.

Though it did not affect the patient severely, but he showed some side effects of shivering and rise in body temperature.

Another patient alleged that the hospital authorities show lack of concern in the general ward. This scerio is commonly seen nowdays in many government hospitals

A senior police official from a nearby police station said, “As of now the authorities have not approached us with any kind of complaint on the expiry date of medicine. A case may be registered after primary inquiry if they approach us.”
