Patient dies, relatives allege negligence

MARGHERITA, March 3: Nima Sherpa (35) of Borgolai under Margherita subdivision was admitted at Rontix Nursing Room at Margherita Tiniali on March 2. Nima Sherpa was suffering from potassium deficiency said, Dr bojyoti Cheleng, Chief Medical Officer-cum-proprietor of Rontix Nursing Room.

Sherpa was referred to Tinsukia Hospital for better treatment but he died on the way on Tuesday afternoon. Relatives of Sherpa alleged that irresponsible treatment by doctors led to his untimely death.

“Margherita subdivision has seen many private nursing homes mushrooming in the past few years. These nursing homes take a lot of money in the me of treatment but when they cannot treat the patients properly, they are referred to Tinsukia or Dibrugarh. If they do not have the efficiency and capability to treat patients then such nursing homes should close down,” said Madhab Das, Circle Secretary of Margherita Branch of Assam Tea Labour Union (ATLU).
