Patricia Mukhim provided security cover

Shillong, April 20: The Editor of The Shillong Times Patricia Mukhim has been provided with security cover, after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at her residence on Tuesday evening, the Meghalaya Assembly was informed on Friday.

Replying to a Zero Hour notice tabled by Independent legislator from Nongkrem, Lambor Malgniang, Home Minister, James K Sangma informed the House that on April 18, the day after the incident, senior police officers met Mukhim to get more details about the case and to review her security cover.

Sangma informed that the matter was also reviewed at a senior police officers meeting held at the police headquarter.

The Home Minister also informed the House that soon after the incident, officers acquainted with forensic science procedures and dog squad visited her residence to help Rynjah police in investigations. “The materials collected from the place of occurrence have been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory, Shillong for expert examination. The investigation is in progress but no arrest has been made so far,” Sangma said. 

While condemning the ‘cowardly act’, the Home Minister assured the media fraternity and the people of the State that the government and the police are making all efforts to trace out the culprits and bring them to book.
