Itagar, Jan 28: galand Governor Padmabha Balakrish Acharya today sworn-in as the Governor of Aruchal Pradesh after former Governor V Shanmugathan resigns from the post on January 26 last.
Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice Ajit Singh administered the oath of office to the new governor in a simple function organised at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan, here. Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Cabinet Ministers, members of State Legislative Assembly, Chief Secretary in-charge Satya Gopal, Principal Secretary Home, senior officers, public leaders, special invitees and distinguished guests also attended the function.
The swearing-in ceremony was followed by State Guard of Honour presented by Aruchal Pradesh Police. Earlier, Acharya arrived here during the morning.
Shanmugathan, a veteran RSS pracharak from Tamil du, was accused of compromising the dignity of the Shillong Raj Bhavan and converting it into a ‘ýoung Ladies’ Club’.
The staff of Shillong Rajbhawan wrote a letter addressing President and Prime Minister accusing Shanmugathan of indulging in immoral activities and also harassing the staffs.
