PCB bans Nasir Jamshed for 10 years for alleged involvement in PSL Spot-Fixing

Jamshed was arrested by NCA in February last year.

Guwahati: The Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday imposed a 10-year ban on former Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed for his alleged involvement in the infamous PSL Spot-fixing scandal of 2016-17.

The tribunal ruled that Jamshed has breached five out of its seven anti-corruption code. The tribunal further held that a player who has violated the anti-corruption codes should be refrained from holding any administrative responsibility in Pakistan cricket, besides being banned from playing any form of cricket.

The country's cricket board found Jamshed as the key figure in the scandal, as it was he who had recruited the players on behalf of the bookies for the spot-fixing.

PCB lawyer Taffazul Rizvi said that their point has been proved and accepted by the tribunal. He lambasted the cricketer saying that even if he returns after rehabilitation, he should not be allowed to hold any responsibility in Pakistan cricket. He also suggested that Jamshed should be added to a list of persons mentioned in anti-corruption lectures who are to be avoided by the players.

Expressing his displeasure, Rizvi said that there are certain cases which don't excite even after winning, and this was one such case.

The National Crime Agency had arrested Jamshed in February last year for the alleged PSL corruption. He is currently on bail in the UK.

He was earlier suspended in December 2017 for the alleged spot-fixing case. The ban meant that Jamshed couldn't play cricket till February 13, 2018 - exactly one year on from the time when he was initially suspended.

Post the end of his ban period, the Pakistan Cricket Board slapped him with seven violations of the anti-corruption code.

The Pakistani opener has played in 40 One-Day Internationals,18 T20Is, and two Test matches. He has scored 1518 runs in the ODI format and has an average of 31.51.
