PCC chief urges Congress workers to strengthen party in Dima Hasao

Haflong, August 27: To find out the root cause of the party’s defeat in the last assembly election and as a part of the programme to rejuvete the party workers, members and others in all the districts of the State, APCC (I) president Ripun Bora along with CLP leader Debabrata Saikia, MP and general secretary Susmita Deb and Ajit Sing, former minister, visited Haflong on Saturday.

A meeting-cum-interaction session was held at the Haflong Rajiv Bhavan and was initiated by Nirmal Langthasa, president, Dima Hasao DCC (I). The session was attended by a large gathering of Congress workers, members and leaders who put forward several points as the root causes for the defeat of the party in Dima Hasao. Kalijay Sengyung, a Congress leader said lack of co-ordition between NC Hills Autonomous Council members and Rajiv Bhavan, non-response from the State leadership and the Congress government regarding the abduction of the brother of DCC president Mahendra Kemprai before election, were the prime reasons for the party’s defeat.

The APCC (I) president in his introductory speech said it was really a matter of concern that the Congress had won the council election and also formed the government in NCHAC but lost it to the BJP as several members joined the BJP.

Bora appealed to all the grassroots level workers and leaders to strengthen the party as the BJP was allegedly polarizing the people in the me of religion and others.

Answering the questions of media persons, APCC (I) president Ripun Bora disclosed that in any decision regarding party matters, the DCC(I) would be the prime and APCC(I) would formulate any decision in regards to membership and the ticket distribution in consultation with the DCC(I) leadership.
