PDF awaits ex-Cong MLA to lead

From A Correspondent
Shillong, July 24: It is a never-ending wait for supporters of suspended Congress MLA Pynshngain N Syiem, who is expected quit the party and lead the newly-formed People’s Democratic Front (PDF).
According to political observers, the delay on the part of Syiem to take charge of the party will be difficult for workers to make up for lost time with the 2108 elections just a year away.
“Once he joins the party, others will rally around him,” sources said.
With Syiem yet to join the PDF, former Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) president Emlang Lytan has taken charge of the party as its working president. Sources said that Syiem will resign as a legislator in September after the budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. He will, however, retain his post as Khasi Hills Autonomous Development Council (KHADC) member. Syiem is currently the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC.
Syiem is the only legislator to simultaneously hold the elected post as member of KHADC.
The suspended Congress legislator refused to quit his membership in KHADC even as the State Assembly passed the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) (Amendment) Bill, 2015 in September 2015.
He was suspended from Congress party in October 2016 for alleged anti-party activities.
Apart from Syiem, many members of District Council and legislators are also contemplating to join the PDF.
