PDF calls on Governor on VAB

Shillong, July 9: A delegation of the ruling People Democratic Forum led by Congress in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council today called on  Meghalaya Governor V Shanmugathan to push for his assent to the Village Administration Bill (VAB),2015. Led by the Chief Executive member (CEM) Pynsngain nda Syiem, the Governor was briefed about the pending assent of the legislation that aims at institutiolizing the functions of the traditiol Village council. Syiem said that the Governor has informed that the VAB is still being examined and assured to soon give his stand on the bill. “We also told him that the bill was also put in public domain for two years before it was passed by the KHADC,” Syiem said while adding that there was no hurry on the part of the district council.  Earlier, the Governor had returned the VAB for clarification on some of the clauses, which was again sent back by the State District Council Affairs (DCA) department after replying to his queries with a request for his assent. It may be mentioned that there was hue and cry from several quarters including the opposition regiol alliance, ARPA against the deletion of two clauses from the origil VAB, which they cited was important to safeguard the interest of the indigenous community.
