SHILLONG, Oct 19: The Peoples' Democratic Front (PDF) constituted its zol committee in Mawlai constituency to strengthen the party's chance to win the Assembly polls scheduled next year.

The committee was constituted in a general meeting held at Mawlai, Mawdatbaki on Thursday. It was attended by about 1,500 people from different localities of Mawlai constituency. During the meeting, the party also elected Teiborlang Pathaw as president of the committee.

Addressing the gathering, Pathaw, who will also be a PDF candidate from Mawlai constituency, said, "If I win the 2018 polls, the first thing on my list will be to work for the overall development of the constituency."

He said, if he gets elected as their representative, he would set up a Mawlai Youth Volunteer Organization to empower the youth of the constituency and help them in inculcating good habits.

Stating that there are plenty of unemployed educated youth in Mawlai constituency, Pathaw said, "There is also a need to set up a Youth Centre where people will get the required information relating to various vacancies in Central and State government departments."

He further emphasized the need to introduce the Mawlai Purpose Fund for serving the underprivileged families.

It may be reminded that in the 2013 Assembly polls Pathaw had contested the election as an Independent candidate form Mawlai constituency where he came in third, and later got second position in the MDC election.
