PDF leader outlines party's priorities

From A Correspondent

Shillong, Nov 5: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) general secretary Auspicious Lyngdoh has said that the party was formed on the foundation to work together for the welfare of the farmers, the daily wagers and those involved in the unorganised sectors, all of whom have been forgotten by the State government.

“The Meghalaya government is yet to implement the Market Intervention Scheme like in other States of the country to uplift those families dependant on agriculture. By doing so the families can support the education of their children,” Lyngdoh said.

The PDF general secretary was speaking at the formation of the PDF’s zol committee in Mawphlang constituency. Lyngdoh also pointed out that as per data available there are 39,000 unemployed youth in the State. “The State government has not explored methods through which these youth can be given meaningful employment,” the PDF general secretary alleged.

He also added that poverty was the biggest enemy of the society and it may also be one of the main factors for the youth to fall prey to unlawful activities, especially the present generation.

Lyngdoh also said that everything depends on the legislators, who must show interest in the uplift of the youth and society at large.

“We live in a region which is rich, but we live in poverty. Many of our people sustain their lives through agriculture and as daily wage earners. The PDF will call them to discuss their problems,” Lyngdoh said. The PDF general secretary also said that a legislator should protect land rights of the indigenous people of the State, its culture and tradition, political rights as per customs and the indigenous languages.
