PDF places findings of its inquiry report in budget session

SHILLONG, Feb 22: The ruling collation People Democratic Forum (PDF) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) placed the findings of the inquiry report into the allege misappropriation of Council funds during the budget session on Wednesday.

Soon after placing the inquiry report members of the house demanded that a committee should be constituted to examine and probe the report within one month before taking any action against the former Secretary of the Council or any other person found involved in the allege misappropriation of Council funds.

In this connection, the CEM P N Syiem agreed with the suggestion brought by members of the house and took a decision to constitute a House Committee to examine the inquiry report and when completed place it before the EC and later place it in an all MDC meeting for discussion before taking any action on the finding report. During the discussion Nongkrem MDC, HS Shylla volunteered to be part of the committee however he was snubbed by the CEM KHADC.

The CEM informed that the House Committee will be led by Congress MDC Manstduty Nongrem as Chairman, from the legislative wing M Kharkrang as Secretary, Teinwell Dkhar (UDP) and Adelbert Nongrum (KHM) and T S Thangkhiew (HSPDP) as members of the committee.

The inquiry report revealed that W Syiemlieh, then secretary of KHADC stated that the transfer of the bank account of the KHADC to his persol account and to the account of Ibabaleisha Syiemlieh was through verbal instruction from the Executive Members of the Council.

 “There was no official sanction shown in writings from the said Executive Members. I was in good faith, so I acted upon what was instructed to me. There was no intention on my part to corrupt or misappropriate the Council funds,” the former secretary stated under his statement as revealed in the inquiry report placed today.
