Peace rally at Shallang

SHILLONG, Jan 11: On Sunday, afternoon a peace rally was held at Shallang, West Khasi Hills. It may be noted that Shallang is a coal mining area and home to mixed community.The coal-belt region is also the hot-bed of militant activities with Garo militant outfits active in the area. According to police on Sunday, a crowd of 1500 plus comprising mainly youths from trouble prone areas of Shallang attended the rally. “The atmosphere echoed with sounds of want for peace and strongly denouncing militancy in the area,” police said today.
