Peaceful immersion of Durga idols in Goalpara

Goalpara, October 13: Under the strict vigil of the administration, the immersion of Durga idols on Tuesday remained peaceful in Goalpara district.

More than 100 committees in separate fixed places observed the ritual without any difficulties. Thousands of devotees in places like Lakhipur, Boguan, Matia, Dudhnoi, Krisi, Rongjuli and Goalpara town participated in the ceremony in a colourful procession.

   Meanwhile, 32 Puja pandals under the Goalpara central committee participated in Tuesday’s immersion ceremony fixed by the district administration at Kacharighat of River Brahmaputra. The immersion, that began with the Police Reserve idol, was completed at 8:20 pm with the fil immersion of the Kalitapara pandal.

Farokh Alom, Deputy Commissioner in-charge and Amitava Sinha, Superintendent of Police, attended the entire function and supervised the programme. Both also thanked the people of Goalpara for their cooperation for the peaceful and successful completion of the festival. The highlight of this year’s Puja celebration was the strategically maged smooth and hazard-free traffic system in the town.
