Pensioners face problems due to 'negligence' of banks

TANGLA, Oct 6: The retired teachers and government employees of Udalguri district whose accounts are in the United Commercial Bank, United Bank, Union Bank, Central Bank and Punjab tiol Bank, are facing problems regarding pension. This was alleged in a press statement issued  by Kalachand Singh, secretary of Udalguri district Retired Teachers and Employees’ Parishad.

The press statement of the organization alleged that while the branches of State Bank of India in Udalguri district were able to clear the two arrear dues of the pensioners, at the same time, the branches of the mentioned banks showed their ignorance saying that they did not get any instruction from the higher authorities of the banks concerned and rather suggested to consult with the treasury office concerned. The statement stated that the treasury office did not have any link with their pensions or arrear dues.

 When contacted, a branch mager of a bank concerned informed the secretary of the organization that the regiol mager did not send any instruction in matters of clearance of pension and arrear dues to the pensioners and assured to contact the higher authority, the press statement added. The secretary of the pensioners’ organization informed that the retired government employees having their accounts in banks other than SBI would have no other option but to transfer their accounts to the SBI because of the negligence of these bank branches towards the pensioners.
