People hit hard by indefinite economic blockade

From our Correspondent
TINSUKIA, July 19: Several student organizations, including AASU and AJYCP resorted to economic blockade for indefinite period on NH 52 at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district from Tuesday against non-fulfilment of various demands following killing of a Kakopathar youth, Mridul Gogoi on the night of July 14 at msai in Aruchal Pradesh. Earlier on July 15, the local people of Kakopathar observed NH-52 blockade for 12 hours and submitted a number of demands to the district administrations of msai and Tinsukia, which included, besides others, suitable compensation to the bereaved family. Though msai administration extended Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia, it was not acceptable to the family. Owing to blockade, several hundred passengers and vehicles carrying essential commodities have been stranded on either side of the Assam-Aruchal border. The NH-52 is an arterial road and strategically very significant as it connects Tezu till Chi border.
