People in 294 villages in Dhubri district still reeling under flood: DC

DHUBRI, July 16: Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dhiraj Choudhury, at a press meet held at his official conference hall on Sunday, informed that though the flood situation had improved, yet people living in 294 villages were still reeling under flood.

In this wave of flood, a total of 2.57 lakh people of 417 villages were affected and due to improvement in flood situation, two out of 11 relief camps had been closed. As of today, 3,014 quintals of rice, 571 quintals pulses, 308 quintal salt, 1,208 quintals of flour, 1,157 pieces of tarpaulin and 39 packets of baby food have been distributed so far, Choudhury further informed.  

 While briefing the media persons, Dhubri Additiol Deputy Commissioner Pallab Mazumdar informed that standing crops in 10,367 hectares cultivatable land and 1,037 houses had been completely damaged and 1.5 lakh livestock affected in the recent wave of flood.

 Mazumdar also informed that 19 deep-tube wells were installed and PHE had been instructed to carry water purification works in all the drinking water sources in order to prevent any water-borne diseases in the district. A team of doctors with paramedical staff was also monitoring the situation at the block-level Public Health Centre, Mazumdar further added. Water of the Brahmaputra is still flowing 80 cm above the danger level, a source in Dhubri Water Resource Department said.
