People injured in bomb blast

FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, February 18: Some persons were injured in a bomb blast at 5 pm today in the heart of the Imphal town. Two of them were stated to be in serious condition.

Police said that some persons who had come there to buy mitha pati had left the bomb. Later it was detoted by using a remote control. There is a ban on mitha pati which is brought by flights from Kolkata daily.   The injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital. Some months back two mitha pati sellers were killed in a bomb blast in the Imphal town. The sellers, who are migrant workers, feel that the insurgents cannot touch them since there are armed policemen nearby. But time and again, such incidents are taking place.

Though police rushed to the spot within minutes, nobody was arrested. Although State Home Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei claims to have stepped up security in the town, there have been killings and other bloodsheds every now and then.
