People seek Jagadish Sarkar's inclusion as EM

From our Correspondent

MANGALDAI, April 13: The Bodoland People's Front (BPF) could win in only 11 constituencies in the three BTAD districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa, but under the leadership of the president of the Udalguri district committee of BPF, Kalaigaon Maheswar Boro and former PHE Minister Rihon Daimary, the party received an overwhelming response from the electorates by winning in nine constituencies out of 10 Council Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Udalguri district.

BTC chief and BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, in an open public meeting at Kokrajhar on Sunday, appreciated the spirit and support extended by the electorates of Udalguri district. Significantly in Bhergaon Civil Subdivision of Udalguri district, the electorates refused all the political parties, including the Congress, BJP, PCDR and the AGP and set a new record by electing all the five candidates of the BPF in the subdivision.

In 35 Mudoibari Constituency (open for all), at the initial stage the BJP was successful in creating a wave in their favour. At the same time, the AGP also fielded a candidate in the constituency once known as a strong fort of the AGP. But setting aside all pre-poll speculations, the BPF had the last laugh. BPF candidate cum sitting Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA), Jagadish Sarkar defeated Niranjan Singh of BJP in 35 Mudoibari Constituency by a margin of 2,849 votes. Jagadish Sarkar secured a total of 14,045 votes while Niranjan Singh could secure 11,196 votes.

The people of Mudoibari constituency have now appealed to Hagrama Mohilary to include Jagadish Sarkar as an Executive Member (EM). According to sources, Mohilary will take the oath of secrecy as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the BTC for the third consecutive term on April 19 at a function likely to be attended by the Governor of Assam.

On the other hand, talking to The Sentinel this afternoon over phone, MCLA Jagadish Sarkar said that he had full faith and confidence in the party high command and it was up to the high command to decide on his inclusion as Executive Member.
