People suffer due to poor roads in Dima Hasao

Haflong, Sept 16: The conscious people of Dima Hasao opined  that though road was always considered to play a pivotal role in developing socio-economic condition of the society, in Dima Hasao the poor condition of roads has deterred the developments of the district.

With the returning of peace in Dima Hasao, the momentum of development was about to pick up but the communication, be it railway or surface with other places of the district and State, was in a pitiable condition since long due to the indifferent attitude of NHAI and its associates following which a strong resentment prevails among the people of the district.

 The surface communication in Dima Hasao was not at all bad in the early days up to 1995. There was ASTC bus service between Diphu-Haflong and Haflong-Silchar. Places like Kheore, Didambra and Hajadisa were well connected by road. But with the commencement of both BG conversion and four-lane NH 54 E from Lumding- Silchar long back, sufferings of people increased instead being eased.

Condition of Haflong Lanka and also Haflong-Umrangsu has now become pathetic and it has become a daily affair for passengers from Lanka and Umrangsu to remain stranded for hours as very often loaded trucks get stuck at places near Gurubari and Junula.

On Saturday, many vehicles were stranded with passengers, including patients, for hours as a truck was stuck near Jhunula where 100 feet of road has been damaged badly due to incessant rain. Female passengers had to pull out the truck to clear the road.
