People urged to save power during Saubhagya programme

TANGLA, April 28: An awareness meet aimed to apprise the people on the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –Saubhagya was held at the conference hall of the SDO (Civil), Bhergaon on Saturday.
The programme was presided over by Paneri MLA, Kamali Basumatary. In her speech, Basumatary said that this scheme would provide energy access to all and electricity connection to all remaining un-electrified households in rural as well as urban areas to achieve universal household electrification in the country. She further stated that the connection would be free of cost for the people who had BPL cards.  She also exhorted the people to save power by proper use of electrical appliances.
BTC deputy speaker Nerswn Boro said that this scheme would provide free electrical connection to about 3.7 crore people by 2019. APDCL official Kamala Kanta Pegu added that under this scheme, households would get connection on the spot and messages would be sent to their mobile phones and some free electrical items would also be provided. An interactive session was also held where the people put up various queries. The programme concluded with ceremonial distribution of connection appliances to five BPL families.
