Perform or perish, Hailakandi DC tells BDOs

Hailakandi, Nov 5: Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Moloy Bora reviewed the status of progress of implementation of IAY houses in the entire district.

 Convening a meeting with the Block Development Officers (BDOs) at his office conference room on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner Bora expressed his displeasure over the tardy progress of implementation and directed the officials to complete the much target within the next 15 days, failing which stern action would be taken against them, stated a press release.

 Bora said stringent action would be taken against the erring officials as well as beneficiaries who have not built their houses despite transfer of fund to their bank accounts. “The BDOs and other officials will not be spared if they fail to perform. The beneficiaries, too, have to face a harrowing time if they do not spend the money for which it was meant,” he added.

 The Deputy Commissioner pointed out that slew of steps would be taken to render the monitoring mechanism more effective for time-bound implementation of the scheme and for uploading the same in the MIS. Bora directed the officials and other functiories to make field visits frequently and to report to him on the status of implementation. “You have to make field visits at regular intervals and to report to me if you face any difficulties. Lame and flimsy excuses will not be tolerated. You have to perform or else perish.”

 The meeting was attended, among others, by Additiol Deputy Commissioner, FR Laskar.  Meanwhile, the district administration has initiated action against Accountant Shanta Das of Katlicherra Block for committing gross irregularities. Das is in police custody and under intense grilling till the time of filing of this report.

 Deputy Commissioner Bora in a recent review meeting made it clear that the administration had adopted a ‘zero-tolerance policy’ in the fight against the scourge of corruption and anyone found involved would not be spared.
