Silchar, July 5: Besides demanding extension of date for submission of NRC forms till December end, Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan (BUBSOSS) has insisted on the Tarun Gogoi Government to submit an affidavit before the Supreme Court for accepting electoral rolls of 2014 as an admissible document in the update process. A letter in this regard has been sent to the Chief Minister of Assam.
This, the literary and cultural body thinks will help the harassed and mentally upset citizens to find a way out of the complicated process while welcoming the initiative of the Chief Minister to plead for inclusion of 2014 voters’ rolls as a document. Scores of citizens across the state are finding it difficult to trace out any legacy data or linkage.
Gautom Prasad Dutta, general secretary of BUBSOSS, said it is true that at the direction of the Apex Court, the update process is being carried out. But, lakhs of citizens are facing immense problems in collecting the relevant documents and are virtually seized with fear and panic. He added to say this has had an adverse effect on them mentally and physically.
It is therefore of imperative importance that the Supreme Court should be made aware of the ground developments. It is after thorough and critical scrutiny as well as examition that the voters’ lists of 2014 have been updated and made ready. There is enough logic, reasoning and justification that the state government should submit an affidavit before the Supreme Court for inclusion of 2014 electoral rolls, Gautom Prasad Dutta pointed out.
The sub-committee consisting of 8 cabinet ministers with Prithvi Majhi as its presiding officer, said Dutta, should have been more cautious while framing the modalities. The members should have taken a comprehensive view of the ground realities to avert the present situation. BUBSOSS has also reminded the Chief Minister that he could submit the affidavit before July 14 as on this date, a related case on NRC will come up for hearing before the Supreme Court.
Gautom Prasad Dutta has expressed his deep anxiety and concern at the suicide and suicidal attempts reported from different places of the state. He also cautioned of a serious situation developing in the state if the mes of lakhs of citizens are not listed in NRC. Considering the difficult ture of forms and the complicated process, the BUBSOSS has also written to the Chief Minister to extend the date for submission of forms till December 31, 2015.
