PHD Officials Meet Governor Of Sikkim Ganga Prasad, Discuss Prospects Of MSMEs

DHUBRI: PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry had a meeting with the Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan, Gangtok, Sikkim to discuss the various opportunities and prospects of industries on clean energy and sustainable development of Sikkim.

The meeting was attended by Principal Director, PHD Chamber, Dr Ranjeet Mehta, renowned media political commentator Dr SK Dutta and the officials of PHDCCI NER Chapter.

Governor Ganga Prasad discussed various steps the State Government was taking regarding energy efficiency by focusing more on renewable sources of energy. He stated that the development of clean energy was most important to meet the national imperatives of financial inclusion and generation of significant levels of employment in urban and rural areas across the country.

Dr Ranjeet Mehta, Principal Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussed the need to strengthen the Medium Small Micro Entrepreneurs (MSMEs) as there was a huge scope for small entrepreneurs in solar, biomass and other sources of clean energy in the State.

Mehta also informed that with growth of the tourism industry in Sikkim, there was a need to create a roadmap for sustainable development to maintain the organic fabric of the State without compromising on economic growth and economic well-being of the people. He also stated the need to go for energy efficient ways without compromising the quality.

He further highlighted the PHDCCI’s role in Sikkim on cold chain, food processing and agribusiness and mentioned about the upcoming Indo-Nepal Summit to be organized at Gangtok on June 28.

Dr SK Dutta while taking part in the discussion, appraised that skill up-gradation was one area that required top attention for the overall development of entrepreneurs and opined that the associations and incubators had a huge role to play in supporting the objectives of the government. He also discussed the political scenario of the present Government of Sikkim and nation as a whole.
