Philatelic exhibition organised in Agartala

Agartala, February 10: A two-day district level philatelic exhibition was organised by Philatelic bureau of the Indian Postal Department at Muktadhara Hall here.

The event was iugurated by the Chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women Purnima Roy.

The exhibition was aimed at making the hobby of stamp collection more attractive to the young generation who in the age of E-mail and SMS rarely use postal stamps.

“The main motto of this exhibition to know about the post office, its various activities and postal stamps, and also to encourage collecting stamps,” said  Nirmal Chakraborty, one of the organizers.

“I have come to see the stamps those are displayed over here and liked them. Some of them are quite old and came to learn many things here,” said Sampa Acharjee, a visitor.

Meanwhile, another visitor, Saraju Chakraborty, said that stamps are more than just postal denomitions, they are miniature icons and memento of a tion’s civilization and culture.

Over 1500 stamps from different period, tions and events were on display in the exhibition. (ANI)
