Phubari TE workers stage protest, demand better medical facilities

Tezpur, July 27:  The workers of Phubari Tea Eastate under the banner of Assam Mazdoor Union and AASSA expressed resentment against the tea estate magement by staging a sit-in in front of the tea estate office on Wednesday.

The workers of three divisions of Phulbari Tea Estate, mely Ameribari, Panipota and Phulbari staged the protest today.  The Assam Mazdoor Union (AMU) submitted a memorandum to the Labout Minister, Government of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur.  In the memorandum AMU demanded compensation to be paid to the family of Shovani Dhanowar who died on July 22. The AMU alleged that Shovani Dhanowar died due to non-availability of ambulance service and medical facilities.

In the memorandum the union demanded improvement of medical services. The union further demanded that the magement of tea estate should not interfere in implementation of various government schemes under panchayat and rural development. Moreover, in the memorandum the organization demanded to provide safe drinking water in every line. The agitated workers under the Assam Mazdoor Union   withdrew their strike after intervention of the district administration.
