Biswath Chariali, Dec 23: The victims of Phulbari massacre were remembered on Saturday with a day-long programme at Phulabari, Tinisuti under Biswath district by several organizations, including Biswath district units of Asam Sangrami Yuva Chatra Parishad, All Choutali Students’ Union, Choutali Sahitya Sabha, AASA and ATTSA.
Altogether 30 people including children and women lost their lives in a cold-blooded massacre carried out by the Songbijit faction of NDFB on this day in 2014. The programmes included lighting of earthen lamps and smriti tarpan. An all-faith prayer was also held on the occasion. The open session was chaired by Kurbeswar Marandi, president of the organizing committee. Assistant general secretary of Asam Sangrami Yuva Chatra Parishad, Dibyajyoti Baruah, Biswath district president Bijit Saikia, general secretary Pallav Kakati, Biswath AGSU president Dilip Gajurel, TAIPA leaders Rajiv Gogoi and Hemanta Gogoi, ATTSA leaders Akash Kissan, Biraj Kissan, among others, were also present on the occasion.
