Physically challenged girl raped

Tezpur, Oct 14: Recently at Korioni Bangaligaon area under Barghat Police Station in Sonitpur district, a physically challenged girl was allegedly raped and she subsequently became pregnt. According to sources, Sahabuddin of Korioni Bangaligaon area sexually exploited a physically challenged girl who belongs to a poor family, for the last two months and made her pregnt. The accused also threatened the girl of dire consequences. After noticing some changes in her physical and mental conditions, the family members questioned the girl and the heinous crime came to light.

Meanwhile, in order to receive justice, the 19- year old girl, uble to speak because of hereditary deafness, approached the police and Human Rights Commission. The family of the girl also lodged an FIR at the Borghat Police station but till date, the police have not arrested the accused person and consequently, her elder brother lodged a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Subdivision, Assam.

The family members have also appealed to the Assam Human Rights Commission.
