Hailakandi, April 8: A meeting of the District Child Protection Committee (DCPC) was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi Adil Khan on Sunday. Chairing the first quarterly review meeting of DCPC at DC’s conference hall here, Khan directed all the BDOs to gear up the block-level Child Protection Committees for promotion of child protection services and tackling child-related issues at grassroots level. “We must pitch in every effort for children in need of care and protection in the district,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner-cum-chairman directed Wodwichee, an NGO running children homes from Silchar, to shift its base to Hailakandi as the district did not have any home for orphans and destitute children.

The meeting discussed on matters pertaining to non-availability of age estimation test (Ossification Test) at SK Roy Civil Hospital and issue of certificate for disabled children by medical board. Khan directed District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Jitul Borah to place the matter before the Joint Director, Health Services.
