NAGAON: Minister of State for Health, Piyush Hazarika along with local MLA Rupak Sarma made a sudden visit to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital on Wednesday morning and monitored all sectors of the hospital. The minister was upset seeing the poor state of affairs in the hospital and strictly warned the hospital authority to ensure smooth maintenance of the hospital and proper attendance of doctors and medical staff in the hospital. He also strictly ordered the hospital superintendent, Dr. J Ahmed, to stop all types of irregularities and negligence by the doctors and nurses over the years.

Referring to the ongoing bookie system along with some pharmacies of the district, he stated that the governmental hospital was not a market. Whatever wrong was going on in the hospital must be stopped. “No bookie or pharmacist can enter the hospital for any reason and legal action will be taken against the authority for violation,” the minister said.

Referring to the unclean environment in the hospital campus, Hazarika said that the government was paying Rs 2.10 lakh to the hospital authority per year under NHM for maintenance of cleanliness in the hospital campus. But the authority had not maintained cleanliness in the hospital. If the fund has not been put into proper use, it means that the fund has been siphoned off, said the minister. He warned the hospital superintendent, Dr. J Ahmed, to maintain the punching machine and the attendance register book of the doctors as well as the medical staff of the hospital so that no irregularities could take place in the hospital.
