Platini loses suspension appeal

Lausanne, Dec 11: An appeal by Michel Platini, president of Europe’s football governing body UEFA, to revoke his 90-day provisiol ban from football was rejected on Friday. Platini’s request was denied by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He filed the appeal on November 20.

The 60-year-old was suspended along with world football’s ruling body FIFA president Sepp Blatter in October for alleged involvement in fincial malpractice. Their ban period expires on January 5, 2016.

Both are being investigated for wrongdoing. They have denied all allegations and are awaiting a verdict on December 21. “The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has partially upheld the request for provisiol measures filed by Michel Platini requesting that his 90-day provisiol suspension from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at tiol and intertiol levels be lifted until a fil decision on the merits of the dispute is taken by the FIFA Ethics Committee,” CAS said in a statement on Friday. “The CAS Panel determined that maintaining the provisiol suspension for the remainder of the 90 days does not cause irreparable harm to Michel Platini at this point in time.” IANS
