Plea not to allow opening of liquor shops in residential areas

TINSUKIA, April 12: The district committee of All Assam Matak Sanmilan (AAMS) in a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, urged upon him not to grant permission to open liquor shops in the vicinity of Borguri, Bojaltoli and no.1 Baluparaon Rangagora Road as the area, which is residential, has a number of religious and educatiol institutions. The memorandum signed by Saroj Gohain, president AAMS and others, stated that following the apex court’s ban on liquor shops and bars, a large number of liquor shop owners who had to shut down their establishments as per directives, of late were seeking permission to open liquor shops beyond 500 metres from the tiol highway, mostly in and around residential areas in Tinsukia town.
