SHILLONG, Dec 27: Meghalaya government has urged the North Eastern Council (NEC) to pay the 10 per cent under the regiol air connectivity scheme.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Civil aviation has come up with the regiol air connectivity scheme.

“Assam and Manipur have signed an MoU. Meghalaya and Aruchal Pradesh have requested the NEC to pay the 10 per cent. So we have submitted what they have proposed in the meeting to the DONER Ministry. We will abide by the decision of the ministry,” NEC secretary, Ram Muivah said.

Meanwhile, on the status of the Umroi airport, Muivah said it has been decided to take up extension of runway but that cannot be decided till now.

“The DPR is to be submitted by AAI, and they have not yet submitted. They say that some land dispute is going on. If they submit the DPR, we will somehow find the funds. Not necessarily NEC budget, but NLCPR will also come forward,” the NEC secretary said. Muivah informed that in the concept paper, Rs 184 crore was estimated as the cost for the expansion of runway.
