Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra on Tuesday called upon the people of the State to take a pledge for promoting human dignity, unity and fraternity besides preserving and maintaining their cultural heritage. In a message on the eve of 33rd Statehood Day, the Governor said the day is an occasion to rededicate you to protect the girl child and educate her.

“We must work with missionary zeal as ‘Team Arunachal’ to realize our cherished goal of making Arunachal Pradesh an economically vibrant and self-reliant model State of India,” he said.

He said it was thirty-two years ago, when full Statehood was conferred on the State. “This paved the way for our people to legislate and execute our own affairs. On this momentous occasion, I extend my warm greetings and felicitations to all my Arunachalee brothers and sisters. I also convey my sincere appreciation to our people for their contribution towards the maintenance of peace, amity, socio-economic progress, preservation of the environment and upkeep of our surroundings,” Dr Mishra said.

Dr Mishra added that India is the biggest democracy in world and the democratic process and values were the bedrock of its functioning.

“In democracy, universal adult franchise is the fundamental right of every voter. It is, therefore, important that people cast their votes in all elections.

“In this election year, I appeal to every citizen of the state to go to polling booth for exercising universal suffrage,” he said and appealed the people to be connected to the Swachhata Mission and strive towards cleaner, healthier and greener India which, he said would be the best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
