PMAY-G launched in Hailakandi district

Hailakandi, Jan 22: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yoja, Gramin (PMAY-G) was launched in Hailakandi Development Block following the ceremonial distribution of sanction letters and handbooks to beneficiaries at a function held at zrul Sadan in Hailakandi town in the presence of several dignitaries.

Deputy Commissioner Moloy Bora, MLAs Sujam Uddin Laskar and Nizam Uddin Choudhury of Katlicherra and Algapur respectively gave away the sanctioned letters to the selected beneficiaries, stated a press release. Bora said the ambitious programme envisaged the vision of the present Central Government to provide environmentally safe and secure pucca house to every rural household by the year 2022.  The Deputy Commissioner further said that the present State Government aimed to build 1.64 lakh houses in Assam in the first phase at an investment of Rs 2,100 crore within May, 2017.

Bora said the scheme targeted the poor, women, ST, SC and economically weaker sections of society and provided them with grant subsidy for Rs 1.3 lakh and interest subvention of 3 per cent on housing loans up to Rs 2 lakh. The unit cost for construction of these houses has been raised to Rs 1.3 lakh and further through convergence of Swacch Bharat Mission and MGNERGA with a minimum support of nearly Rs.1.6 lakh, he added.

Katlicherra and Algapur MLAs exuded optimism that there would be no scope for anomalies in selection of beneficiaries and construction of houses, as a strong monitoring mechanism had been put in place for implementation of the scheme in letter and in spirit. The function was attended, among others, by District Development Commissioner, Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee, Additiol Deputy Commissioners, FR Laskar and Amalendu Roy and BDO Dr. Dhrubajyoti Hatibaruah. Earlier, Block Development Officer, Hailakandi Sarfaraz Haque explained the objective of the scheme.
