PM's intervention sought to improve NH-315A

From Our Correspondent

Itagar, May 11: The people of Tirap and Longding districts have drawn the attention of the Prime Minister towards the deplorable condition of NH-315A, stretching for 125 km from Tinsukia in Assam to Tirap in Aruchal Pradesh.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, the people of the two affected districts, appealed to the Prime Minister to send a central team to inspect the road to know the ground reality as well as sufferings of the people due to the deplorable condition of the strategically important road.

The letter stated that the road, which serves as lifeline for the people of both the districts, was well maintained under BRO till 2014; but, ever since the road was handed over to the state PWD, it has gone from bad to worse.

“Black-topping of the road was done a few months ago. Unfortutely, it was washed away in two days of incessant rain a month earlier,” the letter said adding, the matter was informed to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on April 26 by Agriculture Minister Wangki Lowang. Tirap and Longding districts share intertiol border with Myanmar, which is hardly 13 km from Lazu (of Tirap) and 26 km from Wakka (Londging).

More importantly, Tirap and Longding being insurgency-affected districts need proper and all-weather road connectivity for smooth movement of security forces, the letter said and appealed to the Prime Minister to look into the matter seriously.
