SHILLONG, Sept 21: To reduce Materl Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate in the country, the Government of India has launched a new initiative, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), under the tiol Health Mission. Through this programme, at least one Ante tal check-up (ANC) of a pregnt woman by a doctor/gyecologist will be provided during the 2nd and 3rd trimester on the 9th of every month. The purpose of PMSMA is to ensure that quality ANC is provided, referral, treatment, detection and follow up of high risk pregncies and women having complications. These services will be provided by Medical Officers and OBGY Specialists at all identified Government health facilities. The Director of Health Services (MCH&FW) cum Joint Mission Director, Meghalaya has informed that PMSMA was launched on July 9 in the state and Sweety Pala, renowned Khasi Film actress and mother is the official Brand Ambassador.
