PN Syiem quits Congress, to lead newly-floated PDF

SHILLONG, April 4:  Suspended Congress legislator from Mawsynram, Pynshngain N Syiem has decided to leave the party and lead the newly formed People’s Democratic Front (PDF). Syiem’s decision to leave the Congress and lead the PDF was a foregone conclusion since it was an open secret that the newly formed party was his brain child. According to reports, Syiem may resign as MLA sometime in the month of July and subsequently try to convince colleagues from other parties to join the PDF.

Syiem is critical of the present Congress leadership especially the Chief Minister, DR Mukul Sangma.

Party sources also informed that the suspended Congress legislator will also try to convince legislators from Garo Hills to join the PDF.

According to PDF sources the party intends to field about 15 candidates from constituencies in Garo Hills and from all 36 constituencies in Khasi-Jaintia Hills. It may be mentioned that Syiem was placed under suspension for his anti-party activities in October last year.

It may be mentioned that the PDF was formally launched in March 31 this year. The PDF plans to highlight issues such as poverty, labour, students and youth agenda like employment, quality education, besides effective governce, economic growth, health, environment, land magement, agriculture and allied activities that required urgent attention.
