Poachers kill rhino in KNP, escape with horn

KAZIRANGA, February 9: Despite heavy security in Kaziranga tiol Park (KNP), on Monday morning a group of poachers entered the park and shot dead one adult rhino near Daflang and Borbil forest camp areas under Bagori forest range of KNP. According to forest officials, on Monday night the forest guards of Daflang and Borbil forest camp heard several gunshots. On hearing the sound they informed the range office of KNP and immediately rushed towards Daflaang and Borbil areas to confront the poachers as well as for protecting the rhinos. But they could not reach on time and the poachers escaped along with the horn of the rhino. On Tuesday morning, forest guards found a female rhino carcass in the Bherveri Lake of Bagori range. Form the spot, forest guards recovered one live cartridge of .303 rifle. Already four rhinos have been killed by poachers in KNP this year.
