Poachers killed in KNP not identified

BOKAKHAT, Nov  22: Two poachers of a gang of five, who made an attempt to enter Kazirang tiol Park for poaching, were shot dead by forest personnel at Karbi Hills under Bagori Range on the night of November 19.
Following information, the Special Task Force along with Jakhalabondha Police made an ambush at a hill by the side of NH-37. The forest guards instructed them to stop but they opened fire at the forest guards. The forest guards also replied them with guns and as a result two poachers died on the spot. Three poachers escaped in the dark.  The poachers who were killed have not been identified.
Police recovered a .315 rifle, a modified SLR rifle, 14 rounds of active bullets and five empty cartridges of 303 rifle from the spot. On November 15 too, one poacher was killed by the forest personnel in KNP. The poachers equipped with arms and ammunition have been trying to enter the park from the Karbi Anglong side. The KNP authority has instructed the forest guards to remain alert day and night.
