Poet Uzzal Saikia felicitated

DOOMDOOMA, May 24: Uzzal  Saikia, an eminent poet of Ramdhenu era, were felicitated by two doctors,  who treated him for past several months on completion of his  80th years on May 21 last at Rupaisiding here.

Sakia was felicitated in a programme organized to release a collection of poems titled “Akou tun Abishkar Hobo”.

According to the two doctors—Dr Nirmal Sahewala and Dr Intikabur Rahman of Dibrugarh, poet Uzzal Saikia got a new lease of life because of his strong optimism for life.

According to them, only in rare cases one can recover from the disease that poet Saikia was suffering from. Incidentally, this was poet Saikia’s second collection of poems after his first book titled “Ejak Jokir Jilmil” got published in 2004.

And being emboldened on his recovery from a disease for which he had to be bed-ridden for so long, he now plans to write his third one on poetry.  Besides family members, host of well-wishers, writers, poets and jourlists of the locality thronged the venue of Sahitya Sabha Bhaban, Rupaisiding to wish him on the occasion.

Doomdooma Press Club led by its president, Anuj Kalita,  secretary, Manoj Dutta , vice-president Dinesh Goyal and two senior jourlists, Arjun Baruah and Dhiren Deka felicitated Uzzal Saikia with a phoolam gamocha, a sarai  and a citation among others.

Dr Nirmal Sahewala who besides being a reputed physician is also a writer of fame released the Saikia’s new book of poems while physician –poet Dr Intikabur Rahman spoke at length about characteristics of Uzzal Saikia’s poem.
