Poi Leng festival from February 8

Itagar, Feb 2: The auspicious holy occasion of Poi-Leng (ceremonial chariot) festival for the last rites of late Ven Nyapriyo Bhikkhu Mahathero of Port Blair, Andaman has been fixed from February 8 to 10 next which woukd be held at Poi-Leng Ground, msai. Late Ven Mahathero breathed his last in the Pariyati Sasa Buddhist Vihara msai on January 8 last. He was 68 years old and was origilly from Panjan, Jorhat district of Assam. He was the head monk in Theravada Buddhist Temple in Port Blair, Andaman. The Poi-Leng festival will be observed for 3 days and will have wide range of programme. A meeting in this regard was held in msai Buddha Vihara recently where a Poi-Leng Celebration Committee was also formed with Chow Chandra Mansai as its President and Chow Enseng Mein as its General Secretary. The committee has been constituted for the smooth functioning of the Poi - Leng with the support of various others sub committees. The three day event will have various functions like hoisting of World Buddhist Flag at Poi Leng Ground, Installation of mortal remaining of Late Ven Nyapriyo Bhikkhu Mahathero in the ceremonial chariot, Dhamma Sabha, Khamsin Thomtra, offering of food to Bhikkha Sangha, Pulling of the Ceremonial Chariot, Cremation of mortal remaining of Late Ven Nyapriyo Bhikkhu Mahathero, display of cultural programmes and illumition of candles and lamps, a press release informed.
