Police arrest alleged murderer of Ledo College student

MARGHERITA, August 28: Margherita Police Station officer in-charge Debojit Mahanta, who had assured an agitated mob on August 26 that within 24 hours the murderer of Minu Sautal would be arrested, kept his word. The alleged murderer filly got arrested at Dishangmukh in Sivasagar district on Saturday night.

Minu Sautal, a Ledo College BA third semester student, was allegedly brutally killed by Jai Prakash Sharma of 2 No Maulang Gaon  Ledo on August 21. Her body was found floating in a pond on August 22. Margherita Police Station officer in-charge Debojit Mahanta sent a team of police led by Ghano Kanta Gogoi, investigating officer of the case, to b the accused. Jai Prakash Sharma was arrested from Dishangmukh area in Sivasagar district on Saturday night.

On August 26, activists of six student organizations along with more than 1,000 agitated people blocked the NH-38 at Ledo for two hours in protest against the murder of Minu Sautal and to demand arrest of the accused. Lobo Murmu, the uncle of Minu Sautal, said that the accused Jai Prakash Sharma should get death punishment as he allegedly killed Minu Sautal mercilessly and threw her body in a pond. A case has been registered at Margherita Police Station Case Number 200/16 IPC under Section 302.
