SHILLONG, Sept 22: Amidst the surcharged political atmosphere in West Shillong constituency, police on Friday picked up a frontline supporter of Mohendro Rapsang, Congress candidate from the constituency. Identified as Mike Pakyntein, the police bbed him on the basis of an FIR filed by sitting United Democratic Party (UDP) MLA Paul Lyngdoh.
According to City Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem, Pakyntein was arrested based on his Facebook post that allegedly read as “RIP Paul Lyngdoh”. Pakyntein was once a close aide of Paul Lyngdoh before shifting allegiance to Congress party aspirant Mohendro Rapsang. A petrol bomb was also hurled at his house recently.
Lyngdoh, the complaint, also faced a similar attack at his residence barely five days ago – on 18th September.
Syiem further stated that Pakyntein was produced before a court, which has remanded him in 14 days judicial custody.
Earlier, D Medhi, a supporter of Lyngdoh and member of the UDP youth wing residing at Bishops Fall Mawprem, had also filed an FIR at Jhalupara police outpost on 15th September against Pakyntein alleging that the latter came to his house along with 30 other people and threatened him with dire consequences.
