Police Bazaar beautification project falls flat

From A Reporter

SHILLONG, Oct 15: Police Bazaar headman Shankar Lal Singhania has termed the beautification project in the area by the State government as a complete failure.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Singhania said: “The project to beautify Police Bazaar has fallen flat as the tiles that were laid to adorn the area got displaced in several parts. Moreover, there has been hardly any maintence works over the last five years.” He added though the Assembly election is around the corner, there is still no sign of any repairing work of the roads in the area.

“People very often get hurt because the tiles have got displaced and there is an urgent need to repair the bazaar road,” he said.

Singhania said he had met local MLA Roshan Warjri, a Cabinet Minister in the Meghalaya government, to apprise her on the deplorable road condition. However, till date no step has been taken by the government to repair the broken and displaced tiles, he rued.

He said that even the power lines and telephone cables in Police Bazaar are lying in a cluttered manner, posing a huge threat to the lives of people. The beautification project of Police Bazaar was initiated by then Chief Minister Dr DD Lapang in 2005 at a cost of Rs 5.42 crore.
